We’re happy to report that a whopping five UCTV programs have been honored with awards for excellence.
Gold is the metal of honor when it comes to our haul at the Aurora Awards. That’s because four very different UCTV programs took home Gold Aurora statues.
The winners are:
Building it Better: Earthquake-Resilient Hospitals for the Future (Documentary/Project category), produced by Rich Wargo
Tan Dun’s Water Passion – La Jolla Music Society’s SummerFest 2012 (Music/Live Concert category) produced by John Menier
Colon Cancer Screening: Health Matters (Educational/Fitness, Health), produced by Jennifer Ford
San Diego Opera Spotlight: Moby Dick (Documentary/Cultural category), produced by John Menier
We also rose to the top at the Telly Awards, where The Skinny on Obesity: Sickeningly Sweet, produced by Rich Wargo and Jennifer Ford for the YouTube original channel UCTV Prime, won the Silver Telly for Internet/Online Programs in the Health and Wellness category.
The Aurora Awards are an annual independent film and video competition that honors excellence in commercials, cable programming, documentaries, industrial, instructional and corporate videos.
The Telly Awards honor the very best film and video productions, groundbreaking online video content, and outstanding local, regional and cable TV commercials and programs.
Congratulations to everyone on the UCTV team!
Congratulations to our UC San Diego-based sister channel, UCSD-TV, for nabbing two Aurora Awards for “Taking Control of Your Diabetes” and “UCSD@50!”
Taking top honors with the Platinum Best of Show Award in the News Magazine/Interview category is the November 2010 edition of “UCSD@50,” UCSD-TV’s year-long magazine program honoring UC San Diego’s 50th anniversary. This memorable installment profiles the campus’ unique built environment and highlights research on fighting antibiotic resistant “superbugs,” a conversation with “Avatar” actor and UCSD alumnus Dileep Rao, and more. All “UCSD@50″ programs are available online and the next installment premieres April 11 on UCTV.
UCSD-TV’s “Taking Control of Your Diabetes” (TCOYD) series was also a big winner, taking home a Gold Award in the Fitness/Health category for its episode on weight management. This long-running series hosted by Dr. Steven Edelman was totally revamped in 2010, making this award especially meaningful. All TCOYD programs are available online and the 2011 season premieres in June.
The Aurora Awards is a international competition designed to recognize excellence in the film and video industries. It specifically targets products, programs and commercials that would not normally have the opportunity to compete on a national level, by focusing on non-national commercials, regional or special interest entertainment and corporate sponsored film and video. Entries come from across the US, and abroad.
