Science and Strategies for Lifelong Women’s Health

Women’s health is not one-size-fits-all. Needs and concerns can shift from adolescence through the reproductive years and into menopause and beyond. UCSF’s Osher WISE four-part series Your Body, Your Power: Science and Strategies in Women’s Health at Every Stage offers practical, evidence-based guidance for understanding those changes and making informed health decisions. The series recognizes that each stage brings its own questions and priorities.

Health in Adolescent Girls looks at common challenges during the teen years. Dr. Jenifer Matthews discusses acne, PMS, menstrual cycle irregularities, nutrition, and simple, safe herbal medicine options. Dr. David Becker considers social media, AI companions, and integrative mental health care.

Fertility Optimization focuses on supporting the body before pregnancy. Jennifer Ashby, DAOM, explains East Asian medicine concepts including Jing, Blood, Qi, and Yin/Yang balance. Dr. Maren Shapiro examines sleep, nutrition, exercise, supplements, timing intercourse, and when to seek additional support.

Fostering Reproductive Resilience to Climate and Environmental Change examines how petrochemicals, climate change, and everyday chemical exposures can affect reproductive health and pregnancy. Dr. Marya Zlatnik offers guidance on informed, resilience-building choices that can help protect reproductive well-being.

Menopause and Healthy Aging addresses health during and after menopause. Dr. Tami Rowen reviews the best available evidence and safety information surrounding hormone therapy. Dr. Riley Bove considers brain, heart, gynecological, bone, and emotional health in the postmenopausal years.

Together, the lectures connect science with practical strategies across the stages of women’s health.
