Eva Pacheco’s story is one of determination, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to bilingual education. Starting her career as a teacher in Mexico, Eva already held a deep appreciation for education’s transformative power. However, when she moved to the United States, she quickly recognized the challenges the American education system posed for bilingual learners like her own children, especially those with limited resources. Her experience was not just a personal awakening but a call to action.

Rather than passively accepting the status quo, Eva became a staunch advocate for creating an inclusive learning environment that not only recognized but celebrated bilingualism. Her dedication culminated in the establishment of the EJE Academy in El Cajon, an independent charter school offering dual-language education to all its students. Starting with just 110 students in makeshift facilities, the academy has grown to serve over 800 students today, testament to Eva’s relentless drive and the community’s deep-seated need for such an institution.

The journey wasn’t without its challenges. From confronting laws that sought to marginalize undocumented immigrant children to facing the heartbreak of school closures, Eva’s path was fraught with obstacles.
